Hey everyone! How are you guys on this Monday Morning?! I am going well.
Last night, I had the hardest time falling asleep! I think it was because I wrote my paper so late that my brain was warmed up and could not shut off. I ended up falling asleep at around 1am. When the alarm clock went off for the gym this morning at 6am, I made the decision to stay in bed the extra hour. Adam had the day off, so he drove me into work today. I got in a little past 8am and have been working hard since. I have got a lot of work to do this week!!!!
While laying in bed, not being able to sleep last night, I did a lot of thinking. I have recently gone through a period where I have not been as productive and “on top of things” as I can be, in all aspects of my life. I think that when I am super busy and feel spread a little thin, I struggle to find balance. Do you feel that way too?!
I started to think of all the things/places were I NEED to be productive:
- Full-Time Job
- Schoolwork
- Part-time Job
- Blogging
- Keeping up with housework (cleaning, cooking, laundry, grocery shopping, planning meals)
- Working out
That is a lot, right?! But I am the kind of person that has a really hard time when I feel like I have not been giving all of my responsibilities . So, I have vowed (starting last night), so really focus on what I am doing when I am doing it. I think that will increase in all my productivity, overall. Not worrying about the next thing, but taking the time to give the task at hand my full attention will make getting things done easier. We will see how this goes!
Today’s breakfast was a lot of liquid.

Green Monster:
- Banana
- Bee Pollen
- Flax Seeds
- Ice
- Spinach

See how I doubled up on the PB?! I wanted to make sure this one has flavor, it was perfect!!!
I also had a piece of cinnamon raisin toast with earth balance “butter” and coffee.

That is such a good pledge, and it’s definitely something I need to do as well. So often I stop something midway and it’s horrible!
What a perfect time to focus on focusing! The Fall Season is usually a time of so much activity, (ie kids back in school, Adults like me, back in school, planning for Holloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas). Distraction is almost welcome from sensory overload.
Ironically, Being mindful is something I constantly forget to do. When I do finally remember, the moment is so much more poignant, so much more alive. My senses are awakened and I appreciate the nuances of life much more. At age 40, I realized a whole decade just went by and I all I could think was “where did it all go?”
As you know, I am in theology school, and have been involved in rigorous Christian prayer and meditation throughout my spirirual formation. One little book that had a huge impact on me when it comes to being mindful is “The Miracle of Mindfulness” by Tich Nhat Hahn. Tich Nhat Hahn is a vietnamese Monk who was nominated by Martlin Luther King for his work to acheive peace in Vietnam. He has written numerous books and I attended his talk once on the present moment. What really impressed me is he is 83 years old and sat on his knees upright, back straight, for two hours complelety motionless while he talked in the most soothing gentle voice. Even the young monks on both sides of him where shifting around a bit. Its was stunning to experience. You really know when you are in the presence of mindfulness itself.
Anyway, I used to carry copies of this book around to give to people. His ideas are so simple, its hard to believe you can have a spiritual experience washing the dishes, but you can.
It really changed the way I encounter the world around me, for the better! Check out the book…Stacey
