Bad Run :(

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the name suggestions for my New iPhone!!! Keep em’ coming!!! I am in love with this thing! I spend my bus ride into work listening to my music and reading blogs, how did I live without this thing? One of my classmates told me the other day that I would love it, and she was RIGHT! Thanks, Lea!

This morning I hopped out of bed and headed out for a run.  It was pretty cold out, my iPhone (you guys getting sick of the iPhone talk yet?) told me it was 36 degrees out! I had a really difficult run. I started off fine, but right at the 2 mile mark I started getting this awful stomach pains. They felt like really, really, bad menstrual cramps. My immediate reaction was, “Ugh, no!” Then I thought back and realized they couldn’t be menstrual cramps, because it was not that time for me. Plus, these were way worse than the cramps I usually get. I had to run through it because I had to get home and get ready for work and I was about 2 miles from my apartment. On top of that, I had to stop at a traffic light and forgot to restart my Garmin again until I was about 1/2 a mile past the light. Ugh! So here are my stats.

My Garmin recorded almost 3.5 miles (which was actually more like 4) in 31:14

Splits:

Mile 1: 8:54

Mile 2: 8:46

Mile 3: 9:11

last .47 miles: 4:22

I feel like I still did pretty well even though it was a pretty bad run. I have gotten e-mails asking me when I write that I have had a “bad run” what I mean. So, I think that this would be a good time to touch on that. Clearly, looking at my stats today, you can see my run was not really “bad”.  I ran a descent distance at pace that is pretty normal for me. However, as I have explained in a number of posts before, I love running. I enjoy it, sometimes it even borders on being a spiritual experience for me. It is a time when I am truly just by myself, I do a lot of thinking and reconnecting with myself during that time. I am sure many other runners would agree with those statements. So, to me a “bad run” means any of the following things:

  • Pain- I hardly ever get pain in my legs or back when I run like other runners (unless my body it telling me it is time for new running shoes), but I do get pain in my lungs- which is caused my the damage I did in my 11 years of smoking (you can read more about that here if you are interested).  When I have a lot of pain during a run (lung wise, tummy aches, soreness), I spend my thoughts and energy fighting through the run rather than enjoying it.
  • Extreme Fatigue- I mean running is tiring, it is supposed to be , you are working your body and cardio system pretty hard. But there are some runs when  I feel so tired that I cannot even think of anything else but the exhaustion and feel like my legs are lead.
  • Dehydration- This is a biggy for me. When I run super dehydrated, I feel fain and spacey. It is actually one of scariest feelings I have ever felt. I ran a race once so dehydrated, I didn’t think I would make it! (you can read more about that here).

So, I would say those are the three main causes of a “bad run” for me. Today was a “Pain” run that actually had more to so with my tummy and my lungs. I guess all in all, a “bad run” for me is when I don’t enjoy it, it feels like a chore rather than something I enjoy doing.

After my run, I hopped in the shower and got dressed while sipping on a Green Monster to refuel!

I blended together:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • Bee Pollen
  • 2 big handfuls of spinach
  • Fat Free Organic Milk
  • PB2
  • Chocolate PB2
  • Chocolate Green Superfood
  • ice

When I went to do my makeup, I totally had a green mustache that I needed to wash off! Attractive!

Today I am sporting a very professional (aka really boring) look:

Oh well, this time last year, I couldn’t even button that shirt! :)

Hot Pink Collared Shirt (Jacob), Black Wide Leg Trousers (Express), Black Pointed Slingbacks (Marshalls).

Well, I got to get some work done here….focus, focus!!

See you guys at lunch!

I know you’ve said that you work part time as a function coordinator; would you mind sharing which function hall?
