Goooooooood morning! Where the heck have I been, huh?! Well, it is the last week of school in these parts which translates into I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Tuesday morning I started my month with Ultimate Bootcamp!
Let me tell you, getting up at 5:30 to get ready to workout is not always the most fun. But, it usually works out because I am too tired for conscious thought. So I wake up about half way through the workout and at that point I’m already there! I was excited to get back to my fitness roots. When I arrived at the park I met Carla, the trainer. She is a ball of energy. We started with a few laps around the park. The running warm up was followed by some high knees, butt-kickers and other various bootcamp style drills up and down the field. We then grabbed our stuff and ran over the bridge to the tennis counts in the North End. Once we got there it became pretty clear to me that our legs were the muscle group we would be working on. We did about 8 zillion a slew of step ups, leg raises and squats. Carla kept our minds busy by mixing in suicide runs using the lines on the tennis court. The end of that portion of the workout consists of wall sits. I haven’t done those in forever and know I know why. THEY KILL! Squatting and burning and shaking- oh my! We then ran back to the park did an ab workout (translation: A WHOLE LOT OF CRUNCHES), stretched and called it a day. The workout was past-paced and fairly challenging. I remember from doing Ultimate Bootcamp a few years ago that as the weeks progress the workouts get more challenging. I am looking forward to that.
Post-workout was the get ready for work rat race. I have 30 minutes to get from bootcamp, home, showered, dressed, food packed and get my butt in my office chair. This requires a lot of prep the night before. I laid out my work clothes, and made my breakfast smoothie so that both were ready to go when I got home.
Breakfast: smoothie- banana, spinach, frozen berries, OJ, almond milk, vanilla protein powder and ice.
Lunch: I had a meeting at work where food was provided. I had some Caesar salad:
I also had some “Guidance” pizza! This pizza is now called “The Guidance” at the local pizza shop since our department orders it whenever we have pizza. It is bacon, ricotta and jalapenos. I know it sounds like a weird mix, but it is outstanding!
For dessert, I had some fruit
I can’t believe this is the last week of school! After work I did about 4 loads of laundry and then Adam and I cooked dinner. By that I mean Adam grilled dinner while I played on the back deck with Oscar and drove Adam nuts.
We had homemade turkey burgers on whole wheat sandwich thins. I topped mine with american cheese, mustard and sour pickles. On the side we had grilled corn (with REAL buttah) and grilled red bell peppers. Perfect summer meal! The corn isn’t sweet yet. Oh well, I am sure in a few weeks it will be sweet as can be!
I mentioned that I was doing laundry, well one of the loads was of our bedding. I love having clean sheets and blankets, but I HATE putting the comforter on the duvet. I hate, hate, hate it! I literally crawl inside the darn thing, which Oscar sees as an invite and then climbs in to try to play with me. It is such a process and I typically end up throwing the blanket a few times and swearing. In response to my struggle with my duvet, I sent out this tweet.
About 10 minutes later, I received the following e-mail from Danielle.
I also hated putting my comforter into the duvet-until I discovered this little trick! All you need are 2 medium safety pins.
1. Turn the duvet completely inside out.
2. Lay the comforter on top of the duvet cover so that the corners are aligned.
3. Using the safety pins, pin the two corners of the comforter to the corners of corners of the closed side of the duvet (i.e. the side without the flap or buttons where you put in the comforter)
4. Then, reach into the duvet (it’s still inside out) and grab the corners of both the duvet and comforter that you pinned together and pull through the opening.
5. Ta-da!I’ve been using this trick for years and can’t remember where I found it, but it’s clutch-I actually think about blogging about it sometimes even though it has nothing to do with food or fitness. I included a really bad illustration-I’ll do some googling to see if I can find a video for you to help better explain it.
hope this helps!
Dani
Please direct your attention to the diagram she drew me! I love it! This is why blog friends are awesome!

Haha! Glad it worked! Thanks for the shout out and showcasing my lovely artistic talents (or lack there of).
That’s exactly what I do too, except that I have sewed ribbon into the corners of the duvet and I tie them onto the comforter so that I don’t have safety pins that could potentially stick me. Works like a charm:)
Thank You! That duvet trick is genius!!!
Rather than try to fold all my sheets neatly, I just fold them loosely/messily and stuff them in one of the pillow cases. Keeps everything organized and so much easier!
