FAQ’s

Blogging related questions:

Q: Do you photograph everything you eat?

A: I would say about 90% of my food is documented either verbally or photographically.

Q: How much time do you spend working on your blog and blog related tasks?

A: A LOT! Blogging at times does feel like another full-time job. Between the e-mails, posts, responding to comments, tweeting, planning, photographing, reading and commenting on other blogs and looking over my analytics it is a lot of work at times. But, I love it!!!!

Q: What kind of camera do you use?

A: I have a Canon Rebel T2i.

Q: What kind of computer do you have?

A: I have a Macbook.

Q: How do you deal with the mean and hurtful comments you get?

A: Check out this post.

Q: Do readers ever come up to you in public, does that get annoying?

A: Yes, I have met a lot of readers in person while I am out and about. It NEVER gets annoying!!!! I love meeting you guys. If you see me, please come up and say hi- I promise I don’t bite :)

Q: Sometimes you take photos on your run, do you run with your camera?

A: No. If I take photos while running, they are taken with my iPhone. I use that as an iPod so I usually have it on me.

Weight Loss Related Questions:

Q: Do you count calories?

A: No I do not count calories. I could not live my life mentally adding up a running total of my calories. I am not judging people that do; it is just not for me. I think the key is really finding what works for you. If calorie counting works for you, that is awesome.  I just fuel my body with what makes it feel the best.

Q: How did you lose weight? Did you follow a diet?

A: I did not follow any specific diet to lose weight. I just listened to my body, meaning I ate more whole and nutritious foods and cut of over processed foods because they made me feel crappy. I also put my portion size to something more “normal” for me and learned to stop eating when I was full.  Exercise was huge for me too; I learned how beneficial it is to my body, spirit and mind and fell in love with running.  In my opinion, it is more of a lifestyle than a diet. You can read about my weight-loss journey in my “Meet Ali” tab.

 Food Related Questions:

Q: What is in your green monster smoothie?

A: There is really no set recipe, but it usually includes: a banana, spinach, nut butter, flax seeds, fat free organic milk, Green Superfood and ice. Sometimes I add from fresh or frozen berries.

Q: I notice you eat a lot of vegetarian and vegan dishes are you a vegetarian or vegan?

A: No, but I recently learned there is a classification that my eating habits fall under. I am a pollopescatarian, who knew! That means I eat mostly vegetation, but I do eat poultry and fish as well. I don’t eat red meat or pork, although I have been known to have a steak once a year or so.

Q: How much water do you drink?

A: A LOT! I would say I drink upwards of 80 oz. a day. I drink so much because for some reason, my body reacts really terribly to dehydration and I try to avoid that feeling at all costs.

Q: Do you ever drink soda or juice?

A: No and not really. Soda kills my stomach and whether it is diet soda or regular, I find it to be way too sweet for my taste.  I drink juice very seldom; if I do it is usually in a mimosa or bloody mary :)

Q: You only eat sweets here and there, how do you have so much self control?

A: Actually, it is more the fact that I don’t have a huge sweet tooth than self-control. I have waaaaayyyy more of a salt tooth than a sweet tooth.

Q: How do you prepare tofu?

A: Check out this post on how I press and bake tofu.

Q: How do you make spaghetti squash?

A: There are step by step directions in this post.

Q: How do you make pizza on your grill?

A: The grilled pizza is more Adam’s bag than mine. But here is a post about how we make it.

 Fitness Related Questions:

Q: What exactly is Crossfit?

A: Crossfit is constantly varied functional movement at high intensity designed to enhance mind and body in all 10 domains of fitness which are: Cardio/Resipiratory endurance, Speed, Agility, Stamina, Strength, Power, Accuracy, Balance, Flexibility, and Coordination. Basically, they specialize in not specializing.

The idea is that as humans we tend to gravitate to what we are good at and avoid what we are not good at (which is totally true in my experience).  Crossfit is designed to help you improve on what you are not good at and perfect what you are good at. That way you become better at everything.

Q: What runner watch do you use?

A: I use a Garmin Forerunner 405 . His name is Miles Dos! (my first Garmin Forerunner died in September of 2011- His name was Miles)

Q: How many days a week do you workout?

A: I usually workout 5-6 days a week.

Q: How many miles do you run a week?

A: Honestly, it fluctuates depending on how I feel and if I am training for something or not. When I am half marathon training I average 20-30 miles a week. If I am not it is more like 15-20 miles a week.

Q: Do you think you will ever run a marathon?

A: I ran my first marathon on October 16, 2011. I also really want to do a tri (maybe a mini one); I just need to convince my husband to teach me to swim.

  2. Hi Ali!
I just found your blog and have to say I’d jump at the chance to go full fashion frenzy like you did…so fun! I’m also quite obsessed with all things running and fitness and was wondering if you might send me an email as I’ve just started my own line of personally designed running shirts. I live in my running tees but wanted a way to take the runnerchick to a little more runnerchic.
Drop me a line if you’re interested! :)
