Monday Morning Realizations

Good Monday Morning! Well this morning I came to two realizations. Number one, my laziness and hatred for doing laundry is no longer a valid excuse for the fact that at any given time there is about five loads of dirty laundry sitting in our bedroom waiting to be washed. I put on my big girl pants and immediately got started on it today. Seriously, it is JUST laundry I need to stop b*tching and just do it. Second realization, my right ankle is STILL sore and swollen almost a week later. Why is that? I have done NOTHING to make is better. These are the things I am supposed to do:

  • Stay off of it (while I haven’t worked out or ran because that is next to impossiable, I still have been going about my days as if I don’t have a sprained ankle.)
  • Ice it (I think I have iced it for a total of 40 minutes since I sprained it.)
  • Elevate it (I have been better about this, but not good enough.)

I woke up this morning expecting it to just “be better”. But, it’s not. It’s my fault. Not being able to run or Crossfit stinks, so I have now recommitted myself to taking better care of my ankle. :) Nothing like a little self tough love on a Monday morning, huh? Sometimes I need to lecture myself about things. It is what it is.

As a reward for taking my self-criticism so well, I treated myself to a very delicious breakfast:

I whipped up a batch of whole wheat dark chocolate chip and walnut muffins. I started with the Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Muffin Mix.

I followed the directions on the back of the box pretty closely. I used fat free milk instead of 2% because that is what we had.

I added about two handfuls of dark chocolate chips (for deliciousness) and walnuts (for protein).

and about 15 minutes later, these little beauties came out of the oven.

Breakfast is served!!!

What realizations have you come to lately? Have you had to give yourself some tough love?

  1. Wow those muffin look delicious and simple to make. Where did you find the muffin mix?

Those muffins looks so delicious! I’ll have to look for them at Whole Foods next week. When my husband (at that point boyfriend) moved in together we divided our chores up and for some reason he was responsible for doing the laundry and I was responsible for folding and putting it away. That is the WORST deal ever and usually the laundry piles up for two weeks before I get off my butt and put it away.

I need to give myself some tuff love when it comes to getting to the gym. I’ve been slacking since we returned from our honeymoon, practically 2 months ago.

Ugh, I have been tackling my laundry monster today too! I hate it!!

  4. Ohhh tough love! Such a big fan! Unfortunately, giving myself tough love has been hard this year. But going through a recent break up I have had to seriously be extra hard on myself so I won’t fall into old habits or dismiss red flags. The heart makes you do crazy things! :)

And on a physical level, I had my taekwondo tournament yesterday, even though I took home gold – I felt like my performance could’ve been a lot better. Being TOO hard on myself this time!

Great post, those muffins look delish!

I’m sorry about your ankle lady! I’ve had ankle issues (same right ankle too!) for over 10 years. Mostly because it was never able to heal properly which lead me to re-injury.. countless times. It’s really frustrating, I know.. but just keep that positive attitude and give it the love it needs and you’ll be back to your workouts in no time at all!

  6. I had to get tough with myself this morning. I did not want to climb out of my bed at 4:15am, but I made an exercise plan for the rest of the month yesterday and I knew I would be kicking myself later on today if I didn’t do the scheduled workout.
    The muffins look amazing!

yummy! Those look really good! I find that I do the same thing with my injuries sometimes…like this achilles…I should be foam rolling my calves, icing, and stretching, and not walking around everywhere…but I haven’t done much of the above at all…thanks for the reminder to take better care, I will be recommitting too!

Wait, so laundry isn’t something we get free passes to bitch about? It’s at the top of my bitch list forever and always! That, and putting away the clean laundry ;)

    Hope your ankle feels better!

Awesome looking muffins – I think I’ll make some similar ones for lunch!
All my tough love was devoted to quitting smoking wards this month so I’ve slipped on the domestic chore I shirk most often: changing the toilet paper roll once it runs out. I couldn’t tell you why, but I absolutely hate doing it and will actually rest the new roll on top of the old one instead of replacing it. Fortunately, I’m fine with laundry, feline-waste-disposal and floors, so my fiancee laughs at the tp rolls and does the dishes.

(love the blog, by the way! I’ve been lurking for awhile)
