More Focus…

Hi everyone. Well, we are officially over the Wednesday hump!!! Hurray! After leaving work I had a nice walk home while reading In Defense of Food (I am about 60 pages in and liking it). A guy on a bike commented on my talent to be able to walk and read at the same time…I never thought of it as a talent, it comes easy to me. Does anyone else have no problem walking and reading at the same time? When I got home I was reminded of my magazine subscriptions that have been piling up…so I read Fitness on the couch while sipping on a moch-tail.

3/4 of the glass is Lemon Lime Seltzer and 1/4 is Pom-Cherry juice…it was refreshing. For dinner I decided to make something that Katie sent to me. I altered her recipe a little (and maybe should not have). I put some zucchini, mushrooms, 1/2 a tomato and a hand-full on spinach into my food processor until it was blended.

I mixed the veggies, 3 whole eggs and 3 egg whites, with 1 cup of whole wheat flour, 1 cup of shredded cheddar, and 1/4 cup of olive. Then I poured it into my brownie pan:

and cooked it for 45 minutes at 360. When it came out I cut into 6 servings and served myself one for dinner.

It was just alright, kind of bland. I think I should have used half whole wheat and half regular flour, I also think I should have cropped the veggies instead of blending them. Maybe that would have made a difference? Oh well, it wasn’t my best, but it wasn’t awful. I froze four servings and kept one in my fridge. I am thinking of ways to use it to add more flavor…maybe added salsa and more cheese on top? After I cleaned up from dinner it was almost time for yoga. Adam made a pot of coffee so I grabbed a small cup to go, for the walk to the studio.

The yoga class I went to was for beginners, like I said earlier. It was good, I enjoyed it. But, I wish it were a little more challenging. It seems like I need something right in between a beginners and a vinyasa flow. I did enjoy that the class was a little slower paced because attach more focus to my breathing (which I have to admit I neglect sometime and is so important) and making sure I am in the posture correctly. I benefited from being about to take the time to add more focus in those areas, and enjoyed my practice a lot more than I do in vinyasa flow classes, which I am not convinced are a little to fast paced for me right now at the point I am at in my practice. We will see where I got next, I actually only have one class left on my card that my bestie May bought me for my birthday :( :( and I totally cannot afford another one right now as much as I would really love one :( . Boo! I guess I am going to have to save it for a day when I REALLY NEED YOGA! Well, I am going to do a load of laundry and get ready for bed. I have a date in bed with Woman’s Health. See you guys in the morning!!!

I’m so glad you took the yoga class even if it wasn’t the class you really wanted to go to. I do that sometimes as well but the ‘slower’ paced classes are good to get my alignment right and to really focus on my breathing. While I’m used to the more faster paced vinyasa/power classes, sometimes the slower classes can be a bit of a challenge for me. Slowing everything down and feeling everything is sometimes more difficult than moving fast and ignoring what’s going on in your mind. Nevertheless, both styles are great and good for your body and mind! I’m glad you are feeling better today!

      Nicole,

Very insightful! I have to agree with you. Sometimes in a faster paced class I am more concerned with whether I am keeping up than feeling the poses and being in the now. The slower paced class helped me do that. Maybe incorporating both into my practice is best for me…we shall see:)

In Defense of Food is a wonderful book, although I must admit I can’t walk and read at the same time ;) .

Your mocktail sounds like the perfect after-work, virgin drink!

Bummer the recipe didn’t work out for you!

The orginal is quite plain-tasting, but I like the crunch and taste of the zucchini, corn and onion.
