Hola! Here I am…still awake due a crazy storm here in Boston! So I thought I would just chip away at blog posts until I get sleepy again.

Does anyone else remember the book There Is A Monster At The End Of This Book ?

250px-The_Monster_at_the_End_of_This_Book_Starring_Lovable,_Furry_Old_Grover

As a kid I loved this book. I think I must have read it about 100 times. Every time I read it, I still got a little anxious about how it would end, even I knew. In case you are unfamiliar with it. When the book begins our boy Grover is informed that there is a monster at the end of the book. With each page Grover becomes more alarmed and worried about your safety and tries various methods to stop you from further reading. In the end he realizes the monster is HIM! Just blue, cuddly and cute Grover. No scary big, bad monster after all. Phew!

Well, there is a Giveaway at the end of this post. And unlike Grover, I want you to get to learn about the  giveaway as quickly as possible and enter!!! So let’s move along as fast as we can…

While wearing these socks!

I got an e-mail a few days ago from the folks at Injinji telling me about there new line of socks and asking if I wanted to try them out! After reading about the benefits I figured I would give it a go.  Since  the weather was strangely warm here is Boston yesterday, I thought it would be the perfect time to test out the socks and write a review:

As you can see there are separate slots for each toe. This has been a huge trend in the running world over the last few years (think vibrams) as it is designed to give a runner he benefits of barefoot running. As a fairly severe overpronator, barefoot running is not for me. These socks seemed like a happy medium. I could get the benefits of a barefoot runner (strengthened feet and ankles, improved balance and agility) by wearing the socks while still getting the support of a sneaker.

There are also various other benefits to this sock. Having the toes in separate sleeves is supposed to prevent blistering caused by toes rubbing together in a regular sock. Since I am prone to blisters, I was very glad to learn that this was a benefit. Like a lot of my running socks these also claimed to be sweat wicking and compression materials to hold the sock in place so it doesn’t slide down or shift during the run.

So did I like them? Yes! They felt strange at first. Almost like the feeling when you wear flips flops for the first time in the summer and our toes have to grow accustomed to feeling like there is something in between your toes again. But it felt like that on every toe. About a mile in my feet were used to them and I barely notices that there was anything in between my toes. One thing I like about them is I would feel my toes spreading out and gripping. It was pretty interesting to get a real sense for how exactly my toes move as I am running. I felt like a had a little but more propulsion than I typically do, as if my toes being able to spread may have made move forward easier.

Anyhow, I am excited to try out all the pairs I received designed for different activities. I will be trying out a different pair for Crossfit tonight!

Because I liked these socks so much, the folks at Injinji wanted to you guys to try them out too! So, one lucky reader will win 4 pairs of Injinji socks!!! Pretty sweet!

  6. Michelle says:

First of all, I loved that book (and all things Sesame Street) as a kid!

I can’t really exercise (running, weights, etc) without some kind of headband, bondi band, or something to hold my bangs and wispies back! Even with my hair being as long as it is, it seems like things are falling out and driving me nuts, so I like anything that holds it all back!

  7. Melissa says:

I love my Brooks Pure Cadence 2 running shoes because they helped me cross the finish line at my first marathon a couple of weeks ago!

  8. Michelle says:

I can’t run with out my Nike +! I love being able to track the pace & distance.

  9. Lindsay says:

My favorite piece of workout clothing are my hot pink thorlo socks!

  10. Brittney says:

Yes, I totally remember that book!!
I would say my essential running item is my Asics (GT-2170s). I over-pronate and have issues too, and these and their old version (2160s) have served me well through half marathons and a full marathon, so I love them!

  11. Shanna says:

Good sports bra and sneakers are all I need!

  12. Alexis says:

I love my Garmin for running workouts. And I can’t workout without my Moving Comfort sports bras. My chiropractor just recommended the Injiji socks for helping to heal my posterior tibial tendonitis. I’d love to win 4 pairs!

  13. Lindsey says:

My favorite piece of workout gear is a good pair of built-in-panty shorts! I hate wedgies while working out. Don’t you?! :)

  14. Anne W. says:

I also am in love with my Moving Comfort Fiona!! I have two so far and I end up just washing them a ton to wear them and not using my other, less supportive sports bras. Socks are definitely important, too, though! :)

  15. Julie says:

This doesn’t really fall into the equipment or gear categories, but my favorite tool for exercise is the GymPact app! Knowing that I’m going to lose money if I don’t hit my targets for the week is really motivating, plus I’ve made an extra $50 just from working out!

  16. Jen says:

My favorite workout equipment right now is by BodyPump barbell and weights! I bought the BeachBody Les Mills BodyPump a few months ago, and it is AWESOME! I love lifting weights, and being able to do it in the comfort of my own home is wonderful since I have two little babies – Gym time is not an option for me right now.

  17. Jen W. says:

I LOVE my bic bands – can’t live without them. But I could see these socks becoming my best friend too!

  18. Kelly R says:

I love my moving comfort sports bra. I’m hoping to pick up 1 or 2 more of them soon. I’m intrigued by these socks and would love to try them.

My favorite workout gear is my LuLuLemon TaTa Tamer sports bra! It is the best bra for running, cardio classes & weight lifting!!

  24. Lindsey says:

My favorite piece of workout clothing is my neon sports bras from Target. Never would have thought Target would have the best sports bras! They are great!

  25. I’ve been so curious about these socks, I’m so glad you posted this! My favorite piece of workout gear would have to be my running shoes, Mizunos to be specific. I’ve never had shoes that felt so good while I run. Love them!

  26. Caitlin F. says:

I am obsessed with Mizuno Waveriders. They just fit my feet perfectly. I used to be a huge Asics fan, but now Mizuno is my one and only running shoe.

  27. Lisa says:

My Athletica Spring workout bag is my favorite piece of workour equipment by far. I never forget anythign because it’s all in one place and everything HAS it’s own place and is organized!!

  28. Jeffrey says:

My favorite piece of workout equipment is definitely my Garmin. Every since I bought it I can’t run without it on my wrist. It’s a great tool to document and track workout performance. One of my favorite features is the ability to create interval workouts.
