Morning!!! How are you guys all doing? I am well :) Last night while watching TV, Adam and I got a little snacky, so we shared some popcorn.

YUM!!!!I love microwave popcorn, although I rarely have it!

I slept like a baby last night!!! I actually don’t really get that term, since everyone I know that has a baby says they never sleep, but whatever. Breakfast was PB&J oatmeal!

PB & J Oats:

  • 1/3 of a cup oats
  • 2/3 of a cup of water
  • 1/2 of a banana
  • 1 spoonful of Peanut Butter
  • 1 spoonful of  Jam

The jam I used was the 4th jar I received from Crofter’s. As always it was delicious with chucks of whole fruit. I lllllooooveeee their jams!

Today’s outfit:

Orange and gray sweater dress (Target), Gray cardigan (Gap), Brown tights (Target), Brown boots (TJ Maxx).

While chatting with my bestie May this morning about her wedding, the freakin’ bus drove right by me at the stop. I was sooooo pissed! Next thing I knew, May was pulling up in her car to drive me into work. You see why she is my bestie? Love her!!! Thanks, May May!

Remember how I was telling you guys that I got so much done Friday and yesterday at work? Remember my “paper fortress”?

Well, look at my desk now :) I got it all done and filed away!!!!!

In Other News:

1. Adam has agreed to let me use some of our tax refund to buy a new camera. My Canon SD 780 IS is really on it’s way out.

I was wondering is anyone has suggestions. I really was a Canon Rebel, but I am afraid I will get it and not know how to use it, at all!

Does anyone have a Rebel? Do you like it? Did you find it hard to figure out? Do you find it to be pain  in the neck to carry around? Does anyone have camera recommendations?

I guess my issue with the rebel is that I am afraid it will be a pain in the neck to carry around everywhere with me. I take so many pictures that I need to take my camera everywhere and if I have a big camera like a rebel, will I get annoyed with having to have it as part of my body. My current camera is so tiny that I can fit it in my pocket. So do I upgrade the the big boy or do I just get a better point and shoot? How do I know which is the best point and shoot? Decisions, decisions!!!

2. A co-worker recently brought me this magazine and I was reading it in bed last night.

There was an interesting article about joints. My mother and grandfather both have really bad arthritis. I am petrified of getting it because I see how much pain they are in. My mom finds it hard to get out of bed some days and for someone as active as me, that is like HELL.

The article talked about ways to stall the onset and combat the pain:

  1. Being at a healthy weight
  2. Regular exercise
  3. Mediterranean Diet (fish, fruits, veggies, and whole grains)
  4. Wheat grass to detox the body

I was excited to see these were all things I normally do! Do you have any genetic diseases that run in your family that you are afraid of developing? Do you try to do things now to prevent it if possible?

3. I am accepting “Ask Me Anything” Questions until Friday, March 5th, so hurry up and get them in. To submit an question, click here.

I own a Canon Rebel and love it! It is a great beginner digital SLR camera which means it’s easy to use for a reasonable price. But don’t think it isn’t good quality – it has been taking fabulous and clear pictures for me. The quality of the camera depends on the lens, not the body – so when you develop more expertise in shooting, then you can always upgrade your lens. I wouldn’t worry about the bulkiness of the camera – that’s why we carry around big bags… and you can always sling it around your shoulder as a new fashion accessory. I say – SPLURGE and do it!

My mom is currently fighting cancer (again) and I am worried about getting it when I’m older. I think I’m going to go off hormonal BC as one more way of hopefully avoiding a risk factor.

  3. For cameras, for as often as you take pictures (which means your camera is always with you) it could be a little annoying carrying around a big ole carrying case with you to lug around the Canon. I have a Nikon just about the same size, and as an avid photographer, I plan my purses accordingly to lug it. Its a little anoying, but it takes fantastic photos! I can also suggest the Canon Power Shot (14.1 Megapixel)…its slim and smaller, and actually has more features (and point and click) than its bulkier cousin. Its a little pricier because its compact, but could totally be worth it!

And for family health worries, heart disease and diabetes is huge in my family. My grandfather had 4, yes 4 heart attacks and 4 by-pass surgeries. Due to diabetes, he slowly started losing fingers, toes then feet. He passed away when he was only 65yrs old… He wasn’t heavy, but many of my family members are. So i’m always super worried about diabetes. I get tested every year, and I try to stick to sugar-free candy keep a close eye on my sugar intake, and i keep glucose tabs with me for when I start to feel my sugar levels drop.

I’m also the first in my family to keep a workout regimen and I limit my alcohol to 4-5 per month (if that!)

I may be e-mailing you a bit to ask about camera, as I am a little clueless.

  5. Unfortunately I have no advice on the camera…I’m looking into buying a new one myself.

My grandmother died of pancreatic cancer, which – as far as cancers go – is one of the worst. Fortunately, however, it’s generally not passed on genetically.

LOVE your outfit today, by the way!

i have a rebel and i love love love love it. definitely get an extended lense. it makes a huge difference when you’re at an event or want a close up pic :)

    Hey Ali,

Canon Rebels are great as a beginner professional camera. I couldn’t agree more with dezolutions2010. I have a Canon 20d (pretty much the same size as the Rebel) and it is one of the main reasons why I haven’t kept up with my blog. It is just too super big to carry around to use from Breakfast to Dinner every single day!

But, as far as usage..it’s a really simple camera to use. Even if you are not into changing of settings at first, the automatic option will give you great shots until you do learn the settings.

    Here is you need me!

High blood pressure! And at 32, I’m already on a low dosage RX. Unfortunatley, my Dr. said it was somehting I was just going to have to live with since it runs in my family. Since I already excercise regularly, eat a sensible diet, not overweight, etc, she said it is what it is. Actually though, I’m glad I take a RX for it, I feel soooo much better now. It’s basicallyjust a diuretic, so now I don’t feel puffy from retaining fluid. TMI right. lol

I have asked Dan to email you about the camera thing….you know that its his thing and he is totally all into that sort of thing as its his profession!! I have a long list of health issues that run in my family: diabetes, heart disease, cervical issues, High cholesterol, arthritis, alcoholism..it keeps going and going. I think that the choices I make about living has helped me avoid a lot of these…for now…:)

    Hey Ali,

Depending on what you are looking for and what your priorities are will determine which camera you should get. If you are looking for something small that takes a great photo and looking to not break the bank, I would go with either the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS7 or the Canon PowerShot A630. Check your email for a very detailed breakdown on both along with a lot of info on SLRs and general photography info.

And as always, let me know if you have any questions!

    • Dan says:

Almost forgot to mention here too: If you are going for a great point & shoot, the Lumix DMC-FS7 is a great option and it is under $200 bucks most places especially Amazon.com. It also fits into most cases, I like the most durable one I can find: The Pelican 1010 MicroCase. We use pelican case to transport mostly all of camera gear.

Here is the amazon.com link for the case: http://www.amazon.com/Pelican-PEL1010-BLK-BLK-1010-Micro-Case/dp/B001QURF38/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3KIWKYRSTYD1N&colid=16ELRGNTJQ8ZJ

By the way, heart disease & alcoholism runs in my family. I deal with it by staying as active as possible. But, there was a time of about 4 years that I did absolutely nothing for exercise, steaming from bad running injuries in college and I gained 50lbs or so. In the last year, I’ve taken that all and more off and I’m eating much healthier. When I was heavier it was sooo much harder to do those daily things that I do now without a problem. I guess it doesn’t matter if you are a man or a woman, but when you are out of shape and not healthy, daily life does get a little bit harder and I’m sure it only gets worse when you age.

    • Totally agree with Dan about the Canon Powershot A630 :)

In our family we have arthritis too, also diabetes, thyroid and heart issues. Part of the reason for my weight loss journey is to avoid the heart issues and diabetes… I am happy to hear that it could help with arthritis too :)

i have a rebel xti and i LOVE it. i agree with the others who said it’s easy to use even for a beginner. it has a bunch of automatic settings like a point and shoot (full auto, sports, macro, etc) so i think it’s pretty easy to just pick up and start using. as you get more comfortable with it you can play around with the more advanced settings and learn about things like depth of field, etc. i will say it is rather large for carrying around all day everyday, but i don’t think it’s very heavy, so if you’re already carrying a large bag around you may not mind.

  15. [...] these outfit pics are so blurry! It is really time for a new camera. Thanks for all your input  on that. I am reviewing all the responses. A special thanks to my friend Dan who my post about the camera [...]

  16. catching up ;) i debated DSLR vs just a higher end point + shoot and ended up with the latter — actually the Canon S90, the little point and shoot that tina (carrots n cake tina) uses! i just don’t want the hassle of dealing with a big ol’ camera especially in restaurants and such. i’m so excited to see how the new digital performs!

  17. Hi, i must say fantastic site you have, i stumbled across it in AOL. I bought myself the lumix tz7 digital camera. Its just a pleasure to use.
